Pre-travel counselling

Our Clinical Approach

Pre-travel counselling is the core service of the Thai Travel Clinic. Rather than offering fixed or bundled vaccine packages, we focus on providing individualized, evidence-based recommendations tailored to each traveler. This approach reflects the reality that travel-related health risks vary widely depending on personal health status and travel characteristics.

During the consultation, our doctors conduct a detailed assessment of your destination(s), travel duration, season, planned activities, accommodation type, and underlying medical conditions. These factors critically influence the risk of infectious diseases, environmental hazards, and other travel-related health problems. As a result, the vaccines, medications, and preventive measures recommended for one traveler may be not recommended / optional or even unnecessary for another.

Through pre-travel counselling, we aim to ensure that every traveler receives appropriate, rational, and medically sound advice, avoiding both under- and over-vaccination.

What to expect during your visit

To ensure a thorough evaluation, your visit will generally follow these steps:

  1. Travel and itinerary review
Our doctor will review your destination(s), duration of travel, season, accommodation, and planned activities to identify travel-specific health risks.

  2. Medical and vaccination assessment
Your medical history, current medications, allergies, and vaccination record are assessed to determine suitability and individual risk factors.

  3. Personalized recommendations
Based on this assessment, you receive evidence-based advice tailored to your situation, which may include vaccines, preventive medications, and practical risk-reduction measures.

  4. Vaccination and documentation
When appropriate, vaccinations or prescriptions will be provided during the visit, along with clear advice and documentation to help you prepare for travel safely.

Common Questions & Insights

  • Why don’t you offer “Standard Travel Packages” for Thailand? All travelers are not the same. They have specific health and also risk profiles. So individual assessment is mandatory. Our approach saves you from unnecessary costs and medical procedures.

  • Is a consultation required if I already know which vaccine I want? Yes. As a university hospital, our policy is to ensure that every medical intervention is preceded by a professional clinical assessment to ensure your safety and the appropriateness of the treatment.
